The European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) is one of the most prominent and influential organizations in the field of Dermato-Venereology. Founded in 1987, EADV has the important aim of advancing excellence in patient care through promoting knowledge and expertise among healthcare professionals, as well as advocating on behalf of the specialty and patients. As a not-for-profit education provider, EADV offers a unique platform for deep scientific exchange, providing a valuable service to every type of dermato- venereologist professional including more than 7’000 members from 113 countries worldwide.

EADV hired Whitespace to build a robust, flexible, cloud-based extranet portal for its members. The goal was to provide a seamless and intuitive user experience including guest user registration, membership application and login, member account management functionality, access to member-only content, and role-based administration of a number of application modules.

Multiple complex workflows, one simple solution

At the beginning of the project, EADV had an aging portal for its members. Built gradually and without much coherence, it was becoming difficult for its members to find their way around, particularly regarding calls for applications.

EADV wanted a more prestigious and easier-to-use portal. Due to the complexity of the processes involved, a long series of 19 workshops was necessary to define the required functionality and the workflows for managing the calls for applications. Moreover, as EADV does not have internal IT resources, Whitespace recommended a serverless architecture to facilitate the implementation and maintenance of the infrastructure.

The development of the application was spread over a period of 10 months in Agile mode to keep flexibility in its realization. The development started well before the end of the workshops by focusing on the best-defined features. Great attention was paid to finishing and testing. No significant post-production bug has been reported to date.

MyEADV is an exciting project as we are in charge of the full solution, building it from scratch on a serverless architecture. In particular, we had to considerably simplify their processes to make the application as easy to use as possible. The result is that a simple one-hour training course is sufficient for administrators to manage 10 different processes. The trust established with the client is a key element in the success of this solution.
